Square Enix shared new details about the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake during the Tokyo Game Show 2024.

During a panel at the event, series creator Yuji Horii and remake producer Masaaki Hayasaka discussed various things about the title. The duo said that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will have three copies of the Worlds of Wisdom book.

This would let a character change their Vocation to Sage. They added that the personality test that was in the original game will also be making a comeback. Horii and Hayasaka noted that the remake will not have the Treasures n' Trapdoors board game.

This was also known as Pachisi or its original Japanese name Sugoroku. One thing to note is that the board game did not make an appearance in the original NES version either. It only showed up in the SFC/SNES and Game Boy Color versions, according to RPGSite.

It was also revealed during the panel that there will be HD-2D remakes of Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II. This is something that makes sense in the franchise's timeline as they go from III to I to II based on their lore.

Horii also teased that the ending of the upcoming remake of Dragon Quest II will have a new surprise for fans of the series. Hayasaka added that his team will not be placing any spoiler restrictions on the remakes. This is because they want to encourage discussions and debates about the new story-based playing order.

The Dragon Quest franchise is a beloved JRPG series that Square Enix first developed in. Over the years, the series has had a dozen mainline titles. It also spawned many spin-off games, several manga series, and even some anime shows, the Anime News Network said.

The Roto Trilogy

The first three games in the series were often called the "Roto Trilogy" in Japan. The remake of the third game in the franchise is visually stunning and keeps the classic pixel feel but makes it fit a more modernized look.

The 2.5D aspect also helps realize the late Akira Toriyama's designs without compromising the game's graphical limitations. This is especially true for the curvier and rounder designs in the early Dragon Ball franchise.

The latest news about Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake comes after Square Enix revealed new character art for every job class in the game. These include a fully illustrated design and sprite model for each class, including the new "Monster Wrangler," according to Nintendo Life.
