Genji in Overwatch 2 is a classic damage dealer who can be hard to catch but can also hold his own in a fight against an enemy hero.

In this guide, we'll talk about the stealthy cyborg ninja and how players can make the best use of their abilities, ultimate, and playstyle to dominate their matches. Genji is a common pick among players due to how easy he can be to use.

However, in order to master this particular hero's kit, you need to spend some time practicing your positioning and timing. Genji also operates better as an ambusher instead of a direct frontline damage dealer.

Abilities

Genji's basic attack will have him burst-throwing three shurikens that are relatively accurate. Recent patches have nerfed the damage that this attack deals and the total ammo has been reduced to 24.

The hero's alt-fire is to instead throw three shurikens in a wider arc that can hit more enemies in front of you, according to Game Spot.

Your first real ability is known as Swift Strike and will have Genji rushing forward to slash with his wakizashi blade. If you can successfully eliminate an enemy hero with this attack, you will reset the ability's cooldown.

The second ability is a more defensive option and is known as Deflect. It can parry incoming projectiles toward the direction that you are aiming and even block melee attacks. The range for this particular ability is one meter.

The thing you have to keep in mind about this particular ability is to avoid energy-based attacks such as those from Symmetra's Photo Projector or Winston's Tesla Cannon, Tech Radar said.

In Overwatch 2, Genji's passive ability is called Wall Climb. This lets you climb walls by simply running at them. There are now fewer places to wall climb, making it harder to make use of this passive.

The main issue about wall climbing is that if you encounter a non-flat surface, you will immediately be interrupted and slide to the floor. Practice to know which surfaces you can do this on because some may look flat but are actually not.

Ultimate

This hero's ultimate is known as Dragonblade and is a very powerful ability that can turn the tide of the match if used properly. When you use your ultimate, your primary attack will transform into a melee sword slash.

Each slash deals 110 damage and the overall effect of Dragonblade lasts for six seconds. During this period, you can still use your Deflect and Swift Strike abilities against your enemies, according to The Gamer.

Other Tips

You need to carefully consider your positioning whenever you use Genji in Overwatch 2. You have to be ready to either advance or retreat at a moment's notice.

Genji's abilities make him well-suited to getting up close and personal with enemy heroes. Focus on squishy enemies such as support or damage dealers to make it easier for your team to advance.

You should also know which heroes you are good against and which ones you should actively avoid to maintain your advantage.
