The PS4 version of Minecraft is planned for release within the next few months, but Mojang already has cross-save plans in the works for Sony's consoles. The indie developer stated that they are planning to let players transfer worlds from the PS3 version of the game to PS4, and are looking into the same feature for PS Vita.
The feature is not yet entirely complete according to Mojang, but is something that is currently planned. Eurogamer spotted the news in the comment section of a post on the official EU PlayStation blog regarding a physical PS3 Minecraft release.
"The plan is to enable users to transfer from PS3 to PS4," said Mojang's Owen Hill. "We're still working out how it'll work with the Vita version."
The Playstation 4 version is, according to another comment by Hill, due out between Q2 and Q3 this year--any time from now until September. He also hinted at cross-buy options when asked about the feature by a fan, but had to stop short of fully disclosing details.
"We'll have more news on cross-buy/upgrade options soon! I understand that the wait is frustrating, but we don't want to make false promises," Hill said.
Not much has been said about the Xbox One version of the game, but it is in development. After the wild success of Minecraft on Xbox 360, I would have expected to hear more about the next-gen port. Box art for the PS4 and Vita version surfaced recently, which suggests the launch may be coming sooner rather than later.
