Monster Hunter World: Iceborne features the mighty Glavenus that many hunters most likely have a hard time fighting, even more so for players who are just casually going through the game.
Fortunately, this guide aims to help players, both beginners and veterans, learn how to slay this powerful monster and get its parts to craft mighty armor and weapons. The first thing you should know about Glavenus is that it is a Brute Wyvern that has high mobility and a massive attack range.
Hunters will first encounter Glavenus in the Scorching Blade main quest at Master Rank 7. It is a massive monster with a sword-like tail that can be lit aflame and swung around. In order to successfully slay this monster, you need to come prepared with sufficient gear.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The primary thing about Glavenus is that it is weak to attacks to its head and back, which are two difficult areas to hit since it is so big and mobile. You should avoid attacking its tail if you are not trying to break or cut it as it is very resistant to damage, according to The Gamer.
When it comes to elements, you should be using Water, Ice, or Dragon to damage Glavenus and avoid using Fire and Thunder. If you are still deciding what weapons to use against this monster, it is best to use slash or blunt weapons., such as the Longsword and the Hammer.
Equipment Recommendation
Since Glavenus is weak against Water-based attacks, using this particular element will be beneficial for your hunt. The Jyuratodos tree weapons are all good to use against this particular monster.
When it comes to armor, you should wear equipment that has high Fire resistance to keep yourself from receiving too much damage. In particular, the Rathalos armor set works great as the pieces also provide very useful skills, such as Attack Boost and Weakness Exploit.

Attack Behavior and Pattern
On top of gearing yourself up properly, you need to learn how Glavenus moves around and attacks in order to dodge and find an opportunity to strike back. One thing to note is that a lot of the monster's attacks come from its sword-like tail, said GamesRadar.
At some point during the battle, Glavenus will use its mouth to sharpen its tail, which will ignite it and make it deal more damage. It can also then unleash a barrage of blasts from a distance that make it even harder to fight.
Glavenus also has a massive horizontal leap that can quickly close the distance between it and the hunter if you choose to go on the defensive. But the most dangerous attack that you should look out for is its charged spin.
Other Tips
While fighting Glavenus, you might notice that your weapon attacks are not doing a lot of damage even if you are using the recommended type and element.
This is because the monster's hide is very tough and you should be breaking its body parts to make it more susceptible to your hits.
When the monster becomes enraged, which is evident by it growing spines on its tail, you should be wary of its tail slam attack because it can now happen twice in succession.
The best way to dodge both is by dodging the first as normal and then dodging in the opposite direction for the second, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
