Bonaparte: A Mechanized Revolution is an upcoming turn-based strategy game that aims to remix the French Revolution, primarily with the addition of hulking mechs.

The game is the debut title from Studio Imugi that puts players in an alternative historical version of France's most famous general. You will have to navigate the political, economic, and militaristic storm of the 1790s.

A Turn-Based Strategy Game

Bonaparte also combines hex-based battles, diplomacy, and a branching story that makes it a completely unique take on the genre. Despite the game's name, players will not be taking control of Napoleon himself.

Rather, they will be in control of a French politician and military commander who was inspired by Bonaparte. The turn-based strategy game is set in an alternate, steampunk history where musketeers and cavalrymen can control massive robotic soldiers, according to PCGamesN.

These mechs can be used to clear the field of lesser troops or be used in head-to-head battles against your opponents' equally tough robotic forces. The combat that players will experience in Bonaparte is turn and tile-based.

Here, the power of your offense and defense will fluctuate depending on your stats but also your position relative to your enemies. If you are able to attack from behind, you can expect to beat your enemies with relative ease.

The developer, Studio Imugi, is filled with veterans of prolific Canadian indie publisher Kitfox Games and Sea of Stars developer Sabotage. The story of the game begins in 1789 and the two protagonists are Celine and Cesar Bonaparte, said Rock Paper Shotgun.

These are two fictional variations of the historical Napoleon and the game seems to keep a solid foothold in actual events. However, it does let players carve their own path through the events of the Revolution.

The French Revolution, But With Mechs

One of the biggest features that the game has is that there doesn't have to be a Revolution at all. Players can instead choose to defend Marie Antoinette and her ilk against the mob and send their troops to force-feed the peasants.

Players will be tasked with growing the movement from a ragtag group of idealists into a powerful, radical government in order to determine the fate of the Revolution, as well as the world itself.

You will be able to harness your ideological strategy by choosing your ideals and taking control of France by any means necessary. There are also a variety of famous historical characters and factions who will join you in this political fray, according to BleedingCool.
