The Knightling is a recently announced fantasy platformer game by publisher Saber Interactive and developer Twirlbound that lets players use their shield as a surfboard to traverse the world.

The upcoming game was inspired by the Zelda franchise and utilizes a semi-open world structure where players will be free to explore the lands. It also gives you the opportunity to fight against various enemies and transform your shield into a makeshift parasol.

New Fantasy Platformer, The Knightling

The official description talks a little bit about the story where the titular Knightling, who is a brave knight-in-training, goes on a dangerous quest to rescue their mentor, the great Sir Lionstone. You will have to battle powerful foes, upgrade and master your abilities, and protect the people of the realm from various threats.

The Knightling is armed with only the last thing that Sir Lionstone left him with, a magical shield. You need to harness its power and use it in action-packed combat to overcome the realm's greatest challenges, according to NintendoLife.

The shield gives players the ability to block, bash, parry, and create openings in their enemies' defenses. The world of The Knightling is known as Clessesia, which features many regions that are filled with platforming and puzzle challenges.

The Knightling also sports bright and colorful environments that pay proper tribute to its inspiration in the Zelda franchise. And because of the lack of a PC port for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this newly announced game could fill the gap for fans of the series, said PCGamesN.

Using Your Shield To Travel

The most impressive visual feat of the newly announced game is that it is able to organically blend its natural beauty with a platforming paradise that invites players to dive into it.

While the act of using a shield as a means of transportation is not a new innovation in gaming, The Knightling tailored its world to encourage its use.

In The Knightling, there are a variety of stressed-out villagers who are in desperate need of help and are quests for you to undertake. These range from settling land disputes to corralling farm animals.

While some of these quests might sound mundane or a chore, the fact that you have Sir Lionstone's trust shield makes even these fun to complete. One example is the real-estate argument quest, where you have to measure the distance between two points.

This is done via a quick race-like challenge and on the other hand, the animal wrangling mission introduces a bit of shield-based puzzling and combat mechanics, according to IGN.
