Nintendo Switch 2: Is There a Chance for Release in 2025?

Fans and the gaming industry in general have been anticipating the potential release of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, it has been claimed that the release of the console will not take place before April 2025.

Nintendo previously assured that the new console will be revealed by the end of the current fiscal year. This guarantee was made by none other than Nintendo's president himself, Shuntaro Furukawa.

What Developers Have Reportedly Said

According to a report, journalist Christopher Dring shed light on the possible release date for the Switch 2 while speaking on the GI Podcast.

"No developer I have spoken to expects it to launch in this financial year," Dring said in the podcast. "In fact, they've been told not to expect it in this financial year."

"A bunch of people I spoke to hope it's out in April/May," he added.

The report notes that the Switch successor was previously expected to be released by the end of 2024. That has since been pushed back to 2025.

Nintendo Switch

First announced in 2015, the Nintendo Switch was released in 2017 as the successor to the Wii U. A tablet device, the Switch can either be docked or used as a portable device.

Since its release, other models of the Switch have been released by Nintendo. The first of which is the Nintendo Switch Lite, which was released in 2019. This model is a single unit that already integrates the Joy-Con instead of having wireless Joy-Con controllers.

The second model, the Nintendo Switch OLED, was released in 2021. It features a seven-inch display, as well as 64GB of internal storage.

It was also previously reported that a high-end model of the Switch was in the works. Reports have even claimed that it would be known as the Nintendo Switch Pro. However, it has been likewise reported that the development of this console has been ended to focus on the Switch's successor instead.
