Nintendo Revokes Splatoon 3 Win After Racist Comments, Champions Denied Trophies

The championship title for the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 has been revoked by Nintendo for winners Team Jackpot over alleged misconduct. The USA-based team won the championship back in April but lost its title because some members sent racist messages. For the USA-based team, this decision from Nintendo basically means it will not get the championship trophies and its in-game Splashtag banner removed.

Nintendo's Statement on Revoking the Championship Win in Splatoon 3

Nintendo issued a statement on X, saying, "We have learned that some members of the Team Jackpot, who recently won in the Splatoon 3 World Championship, engaged in inappropriate conduct while playing the Splatoon 3 game." It is this conduct that has irrevocably led to the decision on Nintendo's part to vacate Team Jackpot's win and deny them associated trophies.

Though the company doesn't state explicitly what sort of behavior made it come to this decision, there is little doubt that these racist messages doing rounds online are the cause. Their community is dedicated to positivity, and Nintendo hammered this home when the news was announced: "Nintendo cares deeply about our players and our community, and we take our responsibility to uphold our Community Guidelines seriously."

Future of the Championship

No winner for the 2024 Splatoon 3 World Championship retroactively has been announced yet by Nintendo. The Japanese team Phantom Thief of the Heart, which lost finals to Jackpot, was not confirmed as the new winner. It becomes left to the speculation of members of the gaming community how this decision will impact the future events at Splatoon and whether the championship would remain without a winner.
