Blue Scarab Entertainment is a new video game studio that was founded by veterans from Helldivers 2 and World of Warcraft, is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and will focus on a new MMORPG.

The news comes after the studio was able to secure $7 million in funding for its debut project, which is running on Unreal Engine 5. The company's funding round was led by NetEase Games, which had previously invested in startups such as Rebel Wolves.

Other key contributors include Behold Ventures, Raw Fury founder Jonas Antonsson, as well as Creandum founder Stefan Lindeberg. Blue Scarab Entertainment is led by CEO Colin Cragg and CTO Enno Rehling.

The two individuals both have extensive experience with MMO titles, with Cragg having directed and designed Funcom's Anarchy Online. On the other hand, Rehling worked as a programmer on the same game and also on Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Other additions that are worth noting include DICE veteran Craig Morrison, who operates as studio director, Helldivers 2's community director Ashley Nicollette, and systems designer Guillaume Lhoyer, who is a principal game designer, according to GameDeveloper.

So far, there appear to be roughly 20 full-time staff members who are employed by Blue Scarab Entertainment. All of them seem to have worked on titles such as World of Warcraft, IMVU, and Star Sable Online.

Morrison said that the newly founded studio's first project would mix cozy escapism and true crime into one package. He added that the company's objective is to "fuse and evolve previous gaming and media experiences into something new and fresh for this expanded community."

He continued to say that innovation through iteration can be very powerful, noting that their goal is to bring all the expertise that they have accumulated to forge new experiences for a wider audience to enjoy.

A media release by the studio noted that with the backing of NetEase Games, Blue Scarab Entertainment is empowered to bring its vision to life. The team said that they are grateful for the supporters' commitment to creative freedom, supporting expertise, and resources, said Insider Gaming.

Focusing on a New MMORPG

Despite the exciting news of a new studio being founded and the support that Blue Scarab Entertainment is receiving, there is not much information that is known about the company's debut project.

For now, the upcoming MMORPG has no official name, release date, release window, or even platforms that it will be available on.

However, Blue Scarab Entertainment was founded three years ago, which means that the game has already been in development for quite some time, according to PlayStationLifestyle.

Looking at the new studio's website, the company is described as having a hybrid and remote workplace for its employees. It also discussed a little bit about the game that it is working on, noting that it puts players in the saddle as they discover a beautiful open world on horseback and uncover a dark mystery.

Even with its team, the studio also wrote on its website that it is seeking experienced and compassionate developers, artists, and designers to help build immersive worlds, said Blue Scarab.
