The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Quietly Confirms That Link Will be Playable

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom marks the first time in the franchise that players will be able to take control of the titular princess of Hyrule as the main protagonist.

The game's story follows Zelda as she goes on a journey to save our usual hero, Link, a decision that was met with lively discussions online. But those who may not be too excited about this change could welcome some interesting news.

This is that Link will become a playable character in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom at some point in the campaign. This was something that was quietly confirmed by a leak from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

In the ESRB's rating summary for the game, it reads, "As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle," according to GamingBible.

This is not the first time that the ESRB has accidentally leaked some crucial information regarding an upcoming video game title. Additionally, it is not the first time that the board has leaked information regarding a Nintendo game that features both Link and Zelda.

However, the current situation is not as bad as the time the ESRB leaked playable footage from Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS. This time, Nintendo might not be as concerned since the leak of Link being playable has been met with positive reactions online overall.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is set to launch on Sept. 26, 2024, and many fans are expecting Nintendo to show off more in-game footage before then. On top of the ESRB's leak about Link being playable, there could be other characters that players can take control of that we don't know yet.

The rating summary of the ESRB also talked about how the game features a 3/4 -overhead perspective, adding that players will explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies, said Forbes.

A Playable Link

It notes that some enemies that players will encounter in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom can be set on fire while others dissolve into mist when they are defeated. The game also features battle sequences that are somewhat frenetic with many enemies attacking or fighting at the same time.

Fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise are now speculating about exactly how Link will play out in the new game. The most common theory so far is that the game will start with a prologue where an endgame-equipped Link is the character that players will control.

This setting is somewhat corroborated by the trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom as it shows an opening fight between Link and the villain Ganon. Some players are now thinking that this is actual gameplay rather than a cutscene, which was previously the belief.

Another question that fans are asking now is whether Link will be playable in any other part of the game if this particular theory holds true, according to IGN.
