New Enemy and Map
Project Lupara brings Franco 'Il Bambino' Barbi, a psychosexual manchild with a sawn-off shotgun, into The Outlast Trials. This is the first time players will face a ranged enemy in the game. The trailer for Barbi shows his obsession with making others feel insecure and weak. The addition of this new character changes the game's dynamics, as players now have to be cautious of firing lines and distance.
Along with Barbi, a new map called The Docks has been introduced. This map is the setting for a new trial called 'Poison the Medicine,' where players attempt to poison Barbi's heroin supply. Barbi can also appear in other trials for the first four weeks after the update's release.
Additional Features and Game Modes
Project Lupara includes more than just a new enemy and map. Red Barrels has added new difficulty settings, daily and weekly challenges, and cosmetic catalogues. A new mini-game based on the Stroop Effect is also part of this update.
An entirely new roguelike game mode called Escalation Therapy challenges players with a series of randomized trials in a permadeath format. Players start with nothing and must build their loadout by completing trials. Additionally, a new Barricade rig allows players to block pathways and buy time. Red Barrels hinted that more new rigs are on the way in future updates.
