Developer's Insight into Inspiration

Director Tom Francis, in an interview with GamesRadar+, revealed that Tactical Breach Wizards was born out of a deep admiration and frustration with XCOM. He confessed to spending countless hours immersed in Firaxis' acclaimed strategy series.

Francis expressed his admiration for it, yet highlighted numerous issues he has with the game. He elaborated on the emotional rollercoaster players experience, where critical decisions can lead to irreversible consequences, such as the permanent loss of cherished characters.

Francis's Critique of XCOM's Permadeath

Francis highlighted his struggle with XCOM's unforgiving permadeath feature, which often leaves players mourning the loss of veteran soldiers due to unforeseen tactical errors. "It's so compelling," he mused, "yet it can feel like a meat grinder at times."

Tactical Breach Wizards diverges from XCOM's formula with a unique narrative approach and a focus on managing chaotic scenarios with precision. Despite its departure from traditional strategy mechanics, its roots in XCOM's strategic intensity are unmistakable, resonating with gamers seeking a fresh take on tactical challenges.
