Sega's Crazy Taxi reboot will be an open-world, massively multiplayer AAA game that revitalizes the driving franchise with a new title in the modern era.
The series first came out and was playable in the arcades in 1999 before ports on consoles such as Dreamcast gave it a chance to be played in people's homes. In the game, you play a taxi driver who speeds through the city in order to deliver passengers to their destinations within the time limit.

While driving, you will also be able to perform various stunts so that you can earn points to increase your total. The reboot for the series was first announced by Sega during The Game Awards 2023 alongside new games in other franchises, such as Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage.
And in February, Takaya Segawa, who leads the company's support studio in Sapporo, briefly talked about the Crazy Taxi reboot being a AAA game. Sega recently gave out more information about the title during a developer-focused interview, according to IGN.
The company confirmed that the Crazy Taxi reboot is a "large-scale, open-world, massively multiplayer driving game" that is powered by Unreal Engine. Also, producer Kenji Kanno noted that the reboot can be played by many players at the same time.
The upcoming game will reportedly have the goal of maintaining the classic Crazy Taxi style despite adding new mechanics. There was also mention of a theme park-like map and motifs that were inspired by the U.S. West Coast.

While Sega confirmed the Crazy Taxi reboot and showed off some images about the upcoming game, there is no official release date for it yet. This means that fans of the original franchise will have to wait and see whether they get the reboot sooner rather than later.
The Crazy Taxi reboot will be the first mainline entry for the driving game franchise since Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller was released in 2002. Kanno noted that the reboot will be developed as a "completely new" game, said Automaton.
An Open-World Multiplayer Driving Game
He noted that the team behind the reboot is currently working to resolve the specifics and is testing the game's compatibility with multiplayer play. Additionally, the recruitment page for the new Crazy Taxi game offers a number of different positions.
These range from game designers to level designers, effects designers, character modelers, concept artists, and many more. The posting also showed that the studio is trying to make the Crazy Taxi reboot a global hit.
The previously released teaser video for the reboot hinted at the multiplayer aspect of the game, showing several taxis driving in the game field. In one instance, the footage also showed players driving a police car, which means that there could be other modes or vehicles to use.
Despite all of this information, work on the Crazy Taxi reboot seems very much in the early stages of development. The team suggested that plans could change if they don't work out initially but noted that the current goal is the direction they are going for, according to Kotaku.
