Thunderful, the developer behind SteamWorld Heist 2, has clarified that the highly anticipated game will not be launching on Xbox Game Pass as previously indicated. Initially slated for release on August 8, 2024, across multiple platforms including Game Pass, the game's promotional material has undergone revision following confusion over its distribution plans.

Logo Mix-up Causes Confusion
Earlier announcements from Thunderful suggested that SteamWorld Heist 2 would be available on Game Pass, alongside its release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. However, recent updates from XboxEra revealed that social media posts referencing the Game Pass release were deleted, and trailers were re-uploaded without the Xbox service's logo. Third-party uploads still show the logo, contributing to the initial misinformation.
Fortyseven PR confirmed to XboxEra that the inclusion of the Game Pass logo in the trailers was an error. The studio's representative acknowledged the mistake but did not elaborate on how it occurred. In a statement to Kotaku, the spokesperson emphasized that distribution plans for SteamWorld Heist 2 are still under discussion and assured fans that updates will be provided closer to the game's launch.
Game Details and Future Prospects
Despite the setback with Game Pass, SteamWorld Heist 2 remains on track for its scheduled release on other platforms, promising expanded gameplay features such as real-time naval combat and enhanced customization options. The sequel continues the story of Captain Leeway in a steampunk world, introducing new challenges and gameplay mechanics to delight strategy enthusiasts.
While Game Pass subscribers may miss out on SteamWorld Heist 2 at launch, the service currently offers other titles from the SteamWorld series, including SteamWorld Dig 2 and SteamWorld Build, ensuring players can still enjoy the franchise's unique blend of exploration and strategy on consoles and PC.
Stay tuned for further updates.
