Jet Set Radio Remake Leak Shows Off Gameplay Footage for PlayStation 5

A leak for the Jet Set Radio remaster for the PlayStation 5 somehow made its way to public view and showed off some gameplay footage on the modern console.

Jet Set Radio is a classic Dreamcast graffiti-'em-up game and the latest leak included both gameplay footage and cutscene cinematics. In one of the clips, Professor K, the DJ for the pirate radio station, is seen rocking out in his studio.

On the other hand, other sequences in the gameplay footage leaked showed the protagonist of the game, Beat, rollerblading through Tokyo-to. So far, the art style, while similar to the original game, has less of a cel-shaded look.

Additionally, the new visuals appear to be designed to become more realistic although it is still heavily stylized.

One thing that is worth noting with this is that the assets seen in the gameplay footage are clearly unfinished. This means that there is a high chance that changes will be made prior to the remaster's official release, according to PushSquare.

SEGA had announced that it was planning on bringing Jet Set Radio back late last year along with other fan-favorite titles such as Crazy Taxi. There have been reports that the Jet Set Radio remaster would opt for an open-world format.

There had been a leaked map screenshot before that supposedly showed this to be the case moving forward. Also, more information is expected to be revealed in the future but so far, these assets in the gameplay leak seem to be legitimate.

Despite the leak and other information regarding the Jet Set Radio remaster, there has been no official announcement of the project by SEGA. But one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, cited previously reliable leaker Midori for a set of screenshots.

However, the images were exposed by a leaker who had admitted that they were previously known as MysticDistance and pretended to be someone else. This made the actual source of the leaked screenshots somewhat messy, said IGN.

Bringing Classic Characters Back

Three of the four screenshots showed the protagonist, Beat, exploring by grinding on rails and running across walls. The fourth image also showed the game's World Map, which features various locations, such as Central, DennoCho Station, Neribei, SubCul, and South.

The video leak was apparently that of an in-development trailer for the game that also showed Beat traversing the region while spraying graffiti, performing tricks, and more. This video was somewhat similar to the "Next Generation" montage that SEGA released when it announced the reboot of the franchise.

But if the remake of the original is actually real, it is supposedly a separate project from the reboot of the series. It could also bring back classic characters and gameplay to modern platforms, which is something fans are excited about

The rumored remake of Jet Set Radio is said to be running on Unreal Engine, which makes it look amazing, based on the leaked screenshots, according to MyNintendoNews. On the other hand, the reboot of the franchise is supposedly scheduled for release sometime in 2026.
