Final Fantasy 14 Implements Server-Hopping Restrictions for Dawntrail Launch

In preparation for the highly anticipated Dawntrail expansion in Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix has taken proactive steps to mitigate potential server congestion. The game's player base has continued to grow, and with the influx of simultaneous logins expected during the expansion's launch, the development team aims to ensure a smooth experience for all players.

Login Queues and Prioritization

When a World reaches its maximum capacity, players will encounter a login queue. Even if the queue doesn't seem to be moving, it is still working and letting players in based on their order of arrival. Paying subscribers will receive priority over Free Trial users during login, which may result in longer wait times for the latter. Cancelling the queue will place players at the back of the line upon reattempting to log in.

Data Center Travel Restrictions

To alleviate congestion, Square Enix has implemented restrictions on data center travel within the same physical data center. Here are the specifics:

  • Japanese Data Center: Non-Home World characters logging in will be limited. If a World has reached its maximum number of visiting characters, non-Home World characters logged out on that World won't be able to log in until congestion eases.
  • North American Data Center: Aether/Primal/Crystal: Unavailable for travel.
  • Dynamis: Remains available for travel, with an increased maximum number of traveling characters. The newly added Worlds in the Dynamis Data Center offer an alternative for players during high congestion periods.

These measures aim to manage server traffic and provide a better gaming experience during the Dawntrail expansion launch. Square Enix hopes that by implementing these restrictions, players will enjoy a smoother and more accessible game environment.
