XDefiant Introduces Ranked Mode, Overhauls Progression System

In response to player dissatisfaction, Ubisoft's XDefiant is set to undergo significant changes aimed at improving the progression system. Players have voiced their discontent regarding recent adjustments that increased the grind required to earn Weapon Mastery skins. Executive producer Mark Rubin acknowledged these concerns in a recent announcement, detailing upcoming modifications designed to alleviate player frustrations.

Streamlined Progression Requirements

Rubin disclosed that the XP needed to progress to the next level in XDefiant will be reduced by half, dropping from 30,000 to 15,000. While the levels required to unlock Weapon Mastery skins remain unchanged, this adjustment effectively reverses the recent increase in progression difficulty. Furthermore, the update will apply retroactively to all players once implemented, ensuring that past efforts are duly recognized.

Explaining the rationale behind the initial changes, Rubin admitted that Ubisoft had aimed to balance the pace of progression. However, he acknowledged that the adjustment had inadvertently caused player dissatisfaction. "The main grind we have in game right now is Weapon Mastery," Rubin emphasized, highlighting its central role in player engagement.

Introduction of Ranked Play in Season 1

In addition to the progression overhaul, XDefiant is set to introduce a ranked play mode in its upcoming Season 1. Rubin identified ranked play as a strategic move to enrich the gaming experience and provide players with new goals and challenges. This addition forms part of Ubisoft's broader efforts to diversify gameplay incentives beyond Weapon Mastery.

Looking ahead, Rubin assured the community that Ubisoft San Francisco is actively exploring additional avenues for players to earn rewards and engage with the game's content. These developments are expected to roll out gradually in future updates, aiming to sustain player interest and satisfaction over the long term.
