League of Legends Showcases Aurora's Abilities as New Mid-Lane Champion

League of Legends showcased its upcoming champion, Aurora, a mid-lane champion, as well as her abilities ahead of her official release.

Aurora was allegedly designed by Riot Games around a core character concept, which is that she transcends the veil between spirit and material worlds. The new champion hails from the Freljordian village of Aamu and belongs to a vastayan tribe known as Bryni.

The mid-lane mage has been capable of seeing spirits since she was young and found it challenging to connect with her peers as she was growing up.

She instead turned her focus to nearby spirits as she found solace and companionship in them. Aurora said, "I see the spirit realm and material realm simultaneously."

She also holds a strong desire to uncover more of the mysteries of the spirit realm and leaves her village in order to travel across the Freljord. During her journey, Aurora befriended a forgotten demigod named Hestrelk, who is a brother of Ornn, according to OneEsports.

This particular turn of events led Aurora to develop a new goal, which is to gain the necessary strength to aid her friend in need. The new champion is described as a mid-range skirmisher mage who makes use of her abilities to catch enemies off guard or create an opening.

Aurora's passive is known as Spirit Abjuration and makes it so that the champion favors attacking the same target multiple times. After three attacks on one target, Aurora deals bonus magic damage, gains movement speed, and boosts her healing for a duration.

Her Q ability is Twofold Hex, which is a linear spell that has a similar mechanic to Xayah's QE. When cast once, this ability deals damage and marks the target. After casting it a second time, it draws back the spirit energy and deals magic damage to enemies that it passes through.

Aurora's W ability is Across the Veil where the champion hops in a certain direction and upon landing enters the spirit realm. She becomes invisible and enters Spirit Mode for a brief duration. Takedowns on enemy champions within three seconds of damaging them will reset this skill's cooldown, said Forbes.

The E skill is called The Weirding and has Aurora unlocking a window to the spirit realm to send out a blast of spirit magic. This deals magic damage in an area and will apply a decaying slow over a brief period.

The new mid-lane mage's ultimate R is Between Worlds and unlocks a rift to the spirit realm to send out a pulse of spirit energy. This will deal magic damage and also slow enemies who are hit by it.

After that, the area merges with the spirit realm to give Aurora an empowered Spirit Mode that doubles her bonuses while she remains in it. It also allows her to travel from one end of the area to the other by crossing the threshold.

On the other hand, if enemies try to cross the threshold, they are slowed after being pushed back towards the center of the area. Players who control Aurora can recast this ability to end its effect prematurely, according to Polygon.
