Mastering Rabbit and Steel: Your Ultimate Toybox Guide

Rabbit and Steel is a unique roguelite game inspired by the elaborate boss battles from MMORPG raids. Players can customize their characters with powerful class-specific ability upgrades and synergistic item drops. Recently, the game introduced Toybox Mode, allowing players to test different class, ability, and item combinations against a dummy target.

Unlocking Toybox Mode

To unlock Toybox Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Unlock All Hidden Classes: There are 5 hidden classes in the game. Each one has specific challenges you need to complete to unlock them. Alternatively, you can unlock them by defeating a certain number of bosses.
  2. Unlock All Locked Item Sets: There are 10 locked item sets that also come with their own set of challenges. Like the hidden classes, these can also be unlocked by defeating a certain number of bosses.

Once you've unlocked all hidden classes and item sets, access Toybox Mode via the main menu. Look for the "Extras" button, then select "Toybox" in the bottom right corner.

Using Toybox Mode

Toybox Mode functions similarly to the regular in-game lobby but with some important differences:

  1. Select Your Setup: In Toybox Mode, you can choose your class and trinket. You'll also attack a training dummy while waiting for others in the lobby to ready up.
  2. Manual Selection: Instead of the usual Map & Difficulty options, you'll find the Toybox. Here, you can manually select ability upgrades and items to test different builds.
  3. Testing Against Treasuresphere: After setting up your build, proceed to the next area to test it against a giant treasuresphere with substantial health. This will give you a good sense of your build's effectiveness.
  4. Post-Battle Summary: After defeating the treasuresphere, you'll see a summary of each player's damage per second (DPS). Note that defeating the treasuresphere resets your items, but you can restore your last loadout using the "Previous Loadout" button.

Restrictions and Unlocking Items

Most items and ability upgrades will initially be locked in Toybox Mode. To use an item or ability upgrade, you must complete a run on any difficulty with that item or upgrade unlocked first. However, unlocking an ability upgrade on one class will automatically unlock it for all classes, making the process faster.
