Amazon is bringing the Korean MMO, Throne and Liberty, to the West later this year and is a title that features massive battles that will have "thousands" of players fighting against each other.
One thing that sets the game apart from other MMOs that are currently available is its Castle Sieges. This is a feature that was showcased in the announcement of Amazon's partnership with the game.
Throne of Liberty will be released in 2024
The Castle Sieges reportedly pit thousands of players against each other in a massive battle that seems to look more like Mount & Blade than an actual MMO. There was a preview of Throne and Liberty that was played during the recently concluded Summer Game Fest.
Unfortunately, there weren't thousands of players who were available at the event to make the best of Throne and Liberty's Castle Sieges. However, it showed off some people going through a guided PvE dungeon run.
Franchise lead Merv Lee Kwai was very enthusiastic about the game's Castle Sieges themselves as well as the background technology that went into making them possible, according to GamesRadar.

The thousands of players that will join Throne of Liberty's Castle Sieges will attempt to either hold or overthrow a castle. There will be various Guilds that come together to lay siege and there are also players camped inside who will try to hold them off.
There is a fixed structure that will have players trying to break through outer walls, with some even transforming into siege engine-like Golems to deal more damage.
After this, they will move forward to fight while traveling to the throne room. If they are successful in getting there and claiming the castle, they win the Siege.
Battles With Thousands of Players
Kwai said that the game is a big endeavor, noting that bringing thousands of players into the Castle Siege is not an easy feat. He noted that the team working on the underlying technology was what made it possible in the first place.
Throne and Liberty was developed by NCSoft, which is also the company responsible for bringing Guild Wars and City of Heroes. The MMO promises to be a game of exploration and "massive-scale combat" that all unfold in the "dynamic" open world of Solisium, said Eurogamer.
The promotion blurb of the game explains that players will have to adapt in order to survive and drive through strategic decisions in both PvP and PvE. In Throne and Liberty, you will encounter evolving battlefields that are impacted by weather, time of day, and other players.
The developer also said that in Throne and Liberty, there is no single path to victory as players will journey to defeat Kazar and claim the throne while also keeping rival guilds at bay.
The game's road to release will start this summer and will have an open beta from July 18, 2024, to July 23, 2024, in Europe, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
The Western release of Throne of Liberty comes as it was first picked up by Amazon in February last year and subsequently released in Korea in November, according to PCGamesN.
