Final Fantasy Tactics: Guide to the Best Jobs in the Game

Final Fantasy Tactics is a spin-off of Square Enix's highly popular franchise that focuses on strategic turn-based battles and a deep narrative.

In the original game, as well as in the War of the Lions version, players have a lot of character jobs to choose from. These are essentially the classes that define what abilities and skills you have access to as well as the equipment that you can wear.

Final Fantasy Tactics has 22 jobs in total that range from various melee fighters, such as Squire, Knight, Monk, and Samurai to ranged jobs. The latter include the generic Archer, and the mystic Wizard otherwise known as Black Mage.

On top of letting you choose the jobs of generic units, the game also lets you choose among available options for the main character, Ramza. Knowing which job to use against certain enemies can make the difference between an easy fight and a challenging battle, according to TheGamer.

With that in mind, here are some noteworthy jobs that can get the, well, job, done in Final Fantasy Tactics.

Ninja

First up is the Ninja job, which is a fan-favorite for progressing through the game's mid-game story battles. This particular job blazing fast speed stats, which means that if they do not act first, they will almost definitely be moving next.

Another feature of this job is the ability to dual-wield, which is a devastating system that can take down even the tankiest of enemies. To top it off, the Ninja is capable of catching items that are thrown by other Ninjas, including powerful weapons and armor.

Time Mage

The Time Mage, as the name implies, is capable of manipulating time during battle to either hasten allies or slow down enemies. Buffs and nerfs are particularly powerful in Final Fantasy Tactics as they can spell the difference between victory and defeat, said GameRant.

This job is an indispensable source of support on the battlefield, including spells like Teleport and Mana Shield. The latter provides powerful protection, particularly for spellcasters which are rather squishier than most other jobs.

Samurai

Having decent stats and an even more useful kit, the Samurai job sets itself apart from others available in the game. It has a special skill, known as Iaido, that allows it to not just deal damage to enemies but also grant heals and buffs to allies.

If you opt for a Samurai, you will learn that its defensive skill, Shirahadori, can also become an instant-block skill if you have high enough Bravery. All of these make this job an efficient melee character.

Squire

Usually, the starting classes or jobs in RPGs are the weakest which allows you to get a feel for the game before jumping into the other stronger options. But in Final Fantasy Tactics, this is not the case. The Squire, which is the first job available, can become a powerhouse given the right setup.

This is particularly true for the main character, Ramza, who makes the best of the job's Focus ability. This gives the character +1 Physical Attack that will last for the entire battle and can be spammed.

Chemist

The Chemist is a healer with a long-range attack with their equipped gun and can also attack at close range with a dagger. This job has the "Item" ability early on in the game that is very useful when you need to heal or revive another character.

The Auto Potion skill is also worth noting as it gives the character a chance to automatically use a potion after taking damage from a source. This uses the lowest potion first that you have available in your inventory, according to IGN.
