PlayStation is Bringing Classic Star Wars Game to Modern Consoles Soon

A classic Star Wars game is being brought to modern-day consoles with the help of the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog that also brought previous fan favorites back.

The latest game to get the treatment is LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy which will become available to play for those who have PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. The game was originally released in 2006 for nearly all platforms and was the second entry in the LEGO Star Wars franchise.

The game series tells the stories that are seen across Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI and will not only be available for free to people who have a PS Plus Premium subscription, but it will also be buyable as a standalone title through the PlayStation Store.

The official description for the game on PlayStation reads, "Play through a fun Star Wars galaxy that combines the endless customization of LEGO with the epic story from Star Wars Episodes IV-VI," according to ComicBook.

It adds that players will be able to create and customize their own playable Star Wars characters in millions of different ways. They can also build and ride classic vehicles that can be used to explore the game's vast world.

The original game was initially released on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and will be enhanced with up-rendering, rewinding, quick save, and custom video filters.

So far, the only thing that is odd about the announcement is that the game has already been somewhat available on PlayStation platforms due to LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

The latter is a version of LEGO Star Wars that contains all of the levels that are seen across LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II in one package. Because of this, LEGO Star Wars II let loose on PS5 and PS4 is somewhat odd.

Other Noteworthy Titles

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is among the list of games that are being released as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription. In a blog post, it was revealed that Daxter will be joining the Premium and Extra game catalog on June 18, 2024, said ScreenRant.

Similar to other classic titles, Sony has already confirmed that Daxter will have some additional features through its emulation. However, one thing that other games have but has not yet been confirmed for Daxter is additional trophy support.

Another major title that is included in the list is Monster Hunter Rise, which is Capcom's latest entry in its highly popular monster hack-and-slash-shoot franchise. The game will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Monster Hunter Rise is considered to be one of the largest open-world RPGs in the past few years that is set in a world that has tons of incredible monsters to meet and hunt. Additionally, the game is wrapped up in one of the most engaging and richly complex combat systems among games.

It features a variety of weapon types, each with its own strengths and weaknesses as well as skill ceilings. Even with the same weapon type, there are a variety of builds that make customization an important feature of the game, according to GamingBible.
