Antistatic Studio, which was founded by former Cyberpunk 2077 and BioShock developers, revealed its new co-op shooter, Phantom Line, and confirmed that a playtest is coming later this year.
On top of this, the studio also revealed some new information about the upcoming game, including that it drops players into a version of Eastern Europe. The region has become embroiled in a global nuclear war.
Phantom Line Teaser
In the middle of the chaos that nuclear war has brought, Phantom Line hones in on a different threat altogether. This particular danger is of paranormal origins and is something that teams must confront in groups.
Phantom Line supports up to four players in co-op inside an open-world setting where you and others must navigate and survive dynamic events filled with dangers. Within the game's lore, players' consciousness is transferred into artificial bodies that are known as HUSKs.
These are essentially avatars for scouting and combating paranormal threats out in the open world. The upcoming game's home base is set on an icebreaker ship that also serves as a hub where you and other people can upgrade and personalize your HUSKs, according to The Sixth Axis.
The icebreaker ship will also let you manage your equipment, weapons, and armor to make sure that you have what you need to face the dangers out in the world. The hub also serves as the location where you will hold mission briefings to learn more about the threats that are plaguing the world.

Additionally, Antistatic Studios confirmed that a playtest is coming for Phantom Line and players who are looking to join will have to join the studio's Discord channel. This particular playtest is scheduled to take place sometime in the summer but an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
The studio also noted that players will be able to use HUSKs in their tactics to scout, distract, decoy, and utilize other strategies and commands to gain an advantage. The enemies that players will have to face come into the real world through rifts in the space-time fabric.
A Playtest Later This Year
These doorways allow paranormal creatures and phenomena, dubbed as anomalies, to enter, and players, taking control of operators, will have to close them shut. The game is set to launch on PC at an unrevealed launch date, said GameInformer.
Antistatic Studios also described Phantom Line in a way that suggests there will be a degree of survival upkeep. Players will have to be "self-sufficient" and "improvise" with whatever resources or gear are available in the open world.
On the other hand, the upcoming game seems to lack a PvP mode or mechanic that some players will probably find relaxing due to the nature of such chases. These are features that are seen in other titles, such as Escape from Tarkov and Gray Zone Warfare.
The official description for Phantom Line describes humanity being at war with anomalies and in order to beat them, players will have to become one themselves. You can use QUintessence, which is a substance obtained after containing anomalies, to upgrade your body, according to Steam.
