Power Rangers Beat 'Em Up Coming Later This Year, Bringing Back Classic Characters

A new Power Rangers beat 'em up game is coming later this year featuring classic characters from the popular series and is being developed by Digital Eclipse in partnership with Hasbro.

The game, known as Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, was announced during the Summer Game Fest and is an awesome and fun-looking throwback to '90s-era arcade co-op brawlers. The upcoming title will be arriving later this year and will be available on consoles and PCs.

In the game's announcement trailer, it was shown that players will fight classic enemies such as Putties, and face off against major villains, such as Goldar, in boss fights. Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind also sports a retro art style and is reminiscent of 2022's TMNT throwback brawler, Shredder's Revenge.

The press release for Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind showed that the retro-pixel art brawler will allow up to five players to fight together via online or offline co-op.

You will also be able to take control of the original Power Rangers and pilot the popular franchise's giant robots known as Zords, according to Kotaku.

In a statement, SVP of digital strategy and licensing at Hasbro, Eugene Evans, said that the announcement of the new game comes as they celebrate more than three decades of Power Rangers. He was also excited to collaborate with Digital Eclipse to introduce Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind.

The new game will tell a brand new story that features the iconic villain, Rita, herself, who uses a magical portal to time travel into the past. She then teams up with a younger version of herself in order to finally defeat the Power Rangers.

On the other hand, Digital Eclipse said the Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind's storyline both respects and remixes the Power Rangers lore. This is by including scenarios and gameplay that will be both familiar and new to fans of the series.

You will be able to brawl, blast, fight, and drive through a constantly shifting mix of classic game genres and fan-favorite moments from the series. The version of Rita that returns in the new game is a robot, said IGN.

A Nod to the Beloved Series

Players who are eager to play the game can now wishlist it on Steam to be prepared for when it actually launches on Steam for PC. The game so far does not have a definitive release date, which could come in a later announcement.

Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind features classic costumes, weapons, vehicles, and villains, and the trailer showed side-scroller beat 'em-up action, vehicle segments, and first-person Zord battling that are sure to hype up fans even more.

Evans also noted that they created Hasbro Retro Arcade in order to deliver a modern take on old-school arcade action based on their world-class brands and characters.

He said that this further illustrates their strategy to grow their digital games portfolio through licensing and internal development, according to GameSpot.

An official description of the upcoming game reads that it will let players experience the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers again for the first time.
