Microsoft is reportedly developing a remaster of Bungie's iconic first-person shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved. This remaster may be released on PlayStation, marking a potential milestone for Xbox's well-known exclusive. This information comes from Tom Warren of The Verge, who shared details in the site's Notepad newsletter. The new Halo remaster is said to be in the early stages of development.

Project Latitude: A New Multi-Console Strategy
Halo: Combat Evolved is part of Microsoft's Project Latitude, an initiative to bring more Xbox games to multiple consoles. Earlier this year, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush launched on multiple platforms. Other games being considered for multi-console releases include Doom: The Dark Ages, Hellblade 2, Starfield, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, and Age of Mythology.
Some Games Remain Xbox-Exclusive
Despite this shift, not all Xbox games will be available on other consoles. Gears 6, the Fable reboot, and Compulsion Games' South of Midnight will remain Xbox exclusives. These titles are expected to be featured in this weekend's Xbox Games Showcase, with Fable and South of Midnight likely releasing in 2025.
Microsoft's move to consider more multi-console releases comes after reports in February that Starfield might be released on PlayStation. This aligns with Microsoft's strategy to increase its reach by offering more games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, especially after its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Fans should not expect any new Project Latitude announcements during Sunday's Xbox Games Showcase, scheduled for 6pm UK time (10am PT, 1pm ET) on June 9. An hour-long Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 presentation will follow the showcase.
