Veteran MMO developer CipSoft, which is responsible for the classic Tibia, is back at it again with a new title, Persist Online, that features an open world with other players and zombies.
The studio's latest game aims to "bring hundreds of players together on a persistent server with the greatest possible freedom."
You will be able to team up with friends as you explore the world and battle against zombies. The implementation of friendly fire will more likely than not, cause some to betray their teammates.
CipSoft's Latest MMO Project
Lead product manager Benjamin Zuckerer issued a statement revealing that the zombie MMORPG first started as a hobby project. It was the "brainchild of two long-standing CipSoft employees.
He noted that at the beginning, they just started developing the game that they wanted to play themselves, and the team later grew to 14 people working on development.
Despite the new game looking quite different from the developer's older works, it seems like it is still using its experience to the fullest, according to GamesRadar.
Zuckerer also explained that the true charm of an MMORPG title lies in the "diverse interaction possibilities among players" as well as the unpredictable stories that can emerge.
He noted that decades of operating Tibia have shown them that this is true. He also said that they organize regular game tests even before the early access period.
Speaking of the game's early access version, it is currently still a mystery when it will actually be available for the majority of players. For now, Persist Online can already be wishlisted on Steam but it still has a "Coming Soon" as a placeholder for the release date.

It is no surprise that the new game will have to meet very high expectations and even if Tibia was not the most popular MMO of today, it is still strong nearly three decades after it was launched, which shows the capabilities of the ones who made it.
On top of featuring zombies as enemies and other players, Persist Online also has a dynamic day-and-night cycle. This is said to have significant impacts on gameplay and players will be able to enter and plunder every single building they see, said PCGamesN.
An Open-World Zombie MMO
Teaming up with friends or other random players is the simplest way to survive the zombie apocalypse. Persist Online's world is, as its name suggests, persistent, which means that there are no instances and you and your companions are free to do whatever, whenever you want.
Persist Online also features an expansive arsenal of a variety of weapons, some realistic and some weird. It also has a robust crafting system that allows players to build and customize death dealers of their own.
The types of weapons that players will be able to wield in the game include shotguns, frying pans, and many more.
Another piece of information that the developers have shared is that the upcoming MMO title will launch on PC, Mac, and Linux. The announcement also came alongside a trailer that showed off some pre-alpha footage, according to MMORPG.
