Tactical Breach Wizards Releases Free Demo, Bringing a Fresh Take to the Turn-Based Strategy Genre

Tactical Breach Wizards finally released a free demo on Steam after being previewed back in March 2021, bringing a fresh take on the turn-based strategy genre.

The game is looking to become an excellent use of players' time if they enjoy turn-based strategy games such as XCOM or Capes. However, in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay, Tactical Breach Wizards is more similar to titles like Chimera Squad.

It focuses on a squad of defined characters who will fight against various enemies in tight spaces. Every single level in Tactical Breach Wizards will include a series of rapid-fire breaches that require cunning deployment of guns and spells to beat foes such as the druid mafia and cops.

Tactical Breach Wizards, similar to Capes, allows players to plan out their turns by rewinding all of their actions on any given turn after understanding the consequences. However, one complaint that some people have had is that there is no instant replay of the action, according to PCGamer.

Furthermore, the game doesn't lock player power behind difficult-to-complete side objectives, which many players do not enjoy with other titles such as Capes. It instead locks cosmetics behind these missions, which makes it less of a gameplay issue.

In Tactical Breach Wizards, every turn will have players' operatives moving only once and taking only one action. There are also things that let you swing the advantage to your side, including various special skills.

One particular resource, mana, can be gathered through completing optional side objectives such as snagging intel and sealing doors. Everything dovetails very nicely but it could sometimes be a little difficult to determine where ranged enemies are going to go.

The developer behind the new game is Suspicious Developments, which was founded by former game journalist Tom Francis. The studio had previously worked on titles such as Gunpoint and Heat Signature, both of which are well-loved, said Rock Paper Shotgun.

A Fresh Take on Turn-Based Games

On top of its gameplay, Tactical Breach Wizards' story sets it apart from other turn-based games. In the game's tutorial, you play Zan and Liv, who are a Navy Seer and a commanding officer, respectively.

When you finish the first part of the game, the setting will move forward six months and feature the next protagonist, Jen, who is an independent private investigator witch.

She happened to stumble upon a doctor who was giving a headshot to a Druid Mafia enforcer. The latter was the only one capable of paying Jen for her work.

The situation comes as the local police are not a fan of Jen's work and how she has meddled with their business. It later becomes known that they were in the process of being raided and the incident was orchestrated by Liv.

It also turns out that Zan is in the next room over and the police believe that he is part of the raiding party. Later on, Jen and Zan team up to take on a full police department while trying to figure out just what is happening, according to HeyPoorPlayers.
