Guild Wars 2's latest expansion, Janthir Wilds, will be adding a ton of new content to the massively multiplayer online game and is set to release on Aug. 20, 2024.
Publisher NCSOFT and developer ArenaNet announced the upcoming new expansion, which is the fifth for the award-winning and critically acclaimed MMORPG. It will bring a host of new features that many fans have long wanted to see, including Homesteads.
Guild Wars 2's New Expansion
This is the most player-friendly housing system in an MMORPG and will be coming alongside a brand new customization and decorating interface. You will also be able to create and adorn your own housing space for your friends and guild mates.
The expansion also adds new weapons and mount skills and will welcome players to the uncharted, primordial region of Janthir. The new content includes a new character terrestrial weapon type and features the enhanced Warclaw mount.
All of the new additions and changes to the game will further enrich the subscription-free online world's experience. The announcement also featured a trailer and other screenshots and concept images have been revealed, according to PRNewswire.
The latest expansion for Guild Wars 2 will be available for purchase for $24.99 and similar to the one that came before it, the Secrets of the Obscure, it will have three planned major updates. These are scheduled for release between August 2024 and the summer of 2025.

On the day of the new expansion's launch, there will also be two new maps set among the deltas and islands of Janthir's untamed wilderness.
These include the Lowland Shore, which is the home of the Lowland Kodan, and the Janthir Syntri which features dangerous rocky shores, roaming titans, and mystic storms.
In order to assist players in exploring the new lands, they will have to learn to tame feral Warclaws that previously occupied a specialist role in the World-vs-World game mode. The Lowland Kodan's Warclaws will allow you to hop in the saddle and explore the new region.
A Ton of New Content
Another thing that is being added in the new update is the return of raiding and the game's last raid, The Key of Ahdashim, was released in 2019. After that, the developer shifted to strike missions as the de facto end game for 10-player squads, said PCGamer.
While strike missions are more friendly for people who are looking for groups to play with as each is a standalone, raid-like boss, many others wanted raids to come back. This was primarily because of their more intricate design.
The newest raid will not be launching with the Janthir Wilds expansion but instead will come in a follow-up date as part of the expansion's lifecycle. This is due, in part, to a change being made to the annual expansion plan.
The new weapon type that is being added with the new expansion, the spear, is a two-handed item that will be usable by all professions. However, it is worth noting that a player's profession will change how the weapon works for them specifically, according to MMORPG.
