New Starfield DLC Rumored to be Coming Following Steam Backend Changes

Bethesda is rumored to be gearing up for a new Starfield DLC after fans have noticed Steam backend changes and follows a major update that was released a few weeks ago.

Since it was originally launched in September last year, Starfield has received regular support from its developer, which shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The update a couple of weeks ago overhauled the game's maps and let players customize the interior of their ships.

But now, Starfield players have potentially discovered evidence of the next major update, and Reddit user JarusinTheStars noticed something peculiar. This was because there have been far more updates that were made to the game's Steam page than usual in the past week.

Players can see these changes in the Steam database and not on its public page and they have sparked speculations that Bethesda is planning a new patch. It was either this or the developer is already preparing for the Shattered Space DLC, according to TheGamer.

JarusinTheStars said that over the past week, Bethesda has seemingly made a lot more changes to Starfield than ever since the game's launch. The user noted that they sometimes totaled more than 10 every single day.

He said that his theory is that on the day of the Xbox Showcase, which is on June 9, 2024, Bethesda will present the Shattered Space expansion as well as the June update. He also believes that it will be even bigger than the previous one that the studio had done.

The showcase next week would most likely be a great opportunity for Bethesda to unveil any new things that it is planning for Starfield. Fans of the game will most likely be given some new information regarding the Shattered Space DLC.

JarusinTheStars did mention, however, that it was pointless to try and decipher the changelogs on the Steam database despite the myriad of updates.

Fortunately, fans will not have to wait for long in order to find out whether or not Bethesda actually has something to announce during the upcoming showcase, said Eurogamer.

Upcoming Shattered Space Expansion

Starfield's previous May update, which was teased by Bethesda's Todd Howard, is already live and brings a lot of new things to the game.

On top of the map overhaul, it also adds a new 60 fps target mode on the Xbox Series X. The developer also shared a brief look at land vehicles that will be coming to the game via future updates.

Howard previously played down the absence of land vehicles prior to the game's initial launch, insisting that it was a deliberate design decision. He noted that this allowed the team to "make it an experience where we know how fast [players are] seeing things.

The rumors due to the Steam backend changes also come as one eagle-eyed Starfield observant noticed something about the upcoming Shattered Space DLC. This was that it ties to another massive Bethesda RPG, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Starfield's next DLC, the Shattered Space Expansion, is expected to arrive sometime in Fall 2024, which is around a year following the game's official launch, according to GameRant.
