Monster Hunter Wilds' New Weapon Switch Feature Could be a Game Changer

Monster Hunter Wilds recently released official gameplay footage that showcased the upcoming game's open world to fans of the franchise and teased a new weapon switch feature that lets you bring two weapons into the field.

This is particularly noteworthy because a lot of players have long wanted to be able to change weapons on the fly without having to go back home to swap. This new mechanic is brought by another new addition, the Seikret mount, which can also seek out objectives around the map.

The mount itself is able to carry a second primary weapon for hunters to bring into the hunt, which suggests that Monster Hunter Wilds' open world is so big that it may be needed.

A lot of players have taken kindly to the revealed feature and have already theory crafted on what combinations they want to bring.

One of the possibilities is bringing you different Charge Blades with one focusing on a specific elemental phial while another is equipped with a status phial. There were also those who simply wanted to bring two Dual Swords to rip through all monsters in the area, according to GamesRadar.

Capcom initially revealed the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise in December last year during The Game Awards 2023. It currently has a planned release date of 2024 and will become the 28th title in the series.

The original game was launched back in 2004 for the PlayStation and the latest one was released in 2023, which is the augmented reality mobile game Monster Hunter Now. The mount that was recently revealed is a bipedal, winged, and feathered dinosaur-like beast.

It will provide its hunter with a variety of useful skills on top of carrying their second primary weapon into the fray. This particular feature was showcased in a gameplay trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds during the May PlayStation State of Play.

The footage showed that as a character mounts up on their Seikret, they switch from a melee weapon to a ranged weapon in the blink of an eye and fire on an incoming monster. The Seikret is only one of the many new monsters that have been introduced, said GameRant.

A Definite Game Changer

Other than carrying a secondary primary weapon and helping hunters track objectives, the new monster also lets you switch to a mounted combat mode. This will allow you to attack using a slinger while riding your Seikret mount.

The latest gameplay trailer also showed off other large monsters in the upcoming game, including some who seem to prefer moving in herds. Every single new monster has its own set of behaviors, which will undoubtedly add new depth to how they interact with each other.

The new weapon switch feature also has potential when fighting against monsters that have multiple forms that have different weaknesses. It also sets up the possibility of multi-phase fights where different weapons will be useful depending on the situation.

However, some players have raised concerns about when they would actually be able to use the new feature in any meaningful way. Each category takes a lot of practice and developed muscle memory in order to master that switching on the fly could actually be detrimental to the hunt, according to TheGamer.
