Terraria's Latest 1.4.5 Patch Adds a Variety of New Features, Including Rat Transformation

Terraria developer Re-logic released more information regarding the sandbox game's upcoming update 1.4.5 which will bring a variety of new features, including a rat transformation that would make exploration much easier.

Despite being released more than a decade ago, Terraria is still one of the best PC games in video game history and is only looking to get even better. The Terraria State of the Game May 2024 gave fans of the franchise the latest spoilers for its latest update.

Re-logic head of business strategy Ted "Loki" Murphy said that this month, the studio is "greatly enjoying the warmer temperatures and the chance to get outside a lot more." He added that development work on Terraria remains at a steady pace as they approach the release of patch 1.4.5

He also announced two new long-time community contributors who have been brought on board the official Re-logic team. The new rat transformation will let players become small critters in order to climb through one block-high spaces, according to PCGamesN.

The new transformation will let players quickly navigate paths without the need for extensive mining. What's more, becoming a rat will let you climb walls, which means that any tunnel becomes an easy path for you to traverse.

The full patch notes for the upcoming patch suggest that there will be worked controller tooltips coming with the new update. These would include what seems to be a snow or freeze bomb as well as a new Frishron whip for summoners. It also showed another look at seemingly stackable weapons.

The latter, in particular, will be a saving grace for the inventory of people when they farm one particular enemy type. While there is still no official release date for Terraria's update 1.4.5, Re-logic is adopting its usual "we'll release it when we're happy that it's ready to go" approach.

A Ton of Changes and New Features

The latest patch notes also revealed the names of the two new people who will be joining the team; Jopojelly and Kazzymodus. These two have a long history of working on Terraria, the former as an avid mod creator and the latter as a beta-tester, said GameRant.

On top of the new transformation, patch 1.4.5 also brings a lot of bug fixes, balance changes, and more inventory quality-of-life changes that aim to make the gaming experience better.

Fans of the sandbox game have been quite receptive to the new patch, including the introduction of more people working on the game.

Terraria is commonly credited as one of the greatest sandbox games ever made and Re-logic clearly puts a lot of care into the game. This is a major factor that has allowed the pixel-graphics title to stay as relevant as it has been for so long.

The latest patch comes as Terraria's "final update" has become a running joke between the community and the developer for years now. It goes back to the Journey's End patch that was released in 2020, which was said to be the game's last major patch, according to GamesRadar.
