Zenless Zone Zero: HoYoverse Finally Confirms Official Release Date

HoYoverse has finally revealed an official release date for its latest game, Zenless Zone Zero, which has now been shown to be coming out on July 4, 2024, which almost falls in line with previous leaks.

The game is described as an "urban fantasy action RPG" and seemingly looks similar to Genshin Impact but focuses on streetwear and has an environment filled with asphalt. However, unlike HoYoverse's other game, Zenless Zone Zero is not an open-world title.

Other than having players explore a few blocks of its city, named New Eridu, you will spend the majority of your time navigating through mazes. These are made out of fuzzy CRTs and are visual representations of areas in the world that have been struck by supernatural disasters known as "Hollows."

The game's similarities with Genshin Impact are also seen in the roster of characters that you will be able to lead through the hollows and control. Similar to other gacha games, you will be able to earn free characters by playing through the story, according to PCGamer.

Additionally, you can get the most powerful characters if you are willing to gamble for them by using premium currency. Similar to characters from Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero's roster all have their own unique set of abilities that cater to various playstyles and team compositions.

There have already been a few public playtests for Zenless Zone Zero that were held in order to balance the game ahead of its official launch.

It also seems like the amount of time that players will need to navigate through the mazes and actually get to a fight has been shortened. This was a decision made after many players found the original process especially tedious.

The game also omits the entire concept of Genshin Impact's stamina meter limits and instead focuses on combos, character swapping, and last-second dodges. This makes it play out more like an action game and rewards you for strengthening your main damage dealer.

An All-Platform Launch

The unveiling of Zenless Zone Zero's release date also comes with the announcement that it will be launching on all platforms at the same time. On top of the release, HoYoverse is also doing a micro-giveaway of four PlayStation 5 units in celebration of the launch, said Forbes.

The official description of the upcoming game reads that it is set in the near future where a new kind of city has emerged in the disaster-ridden world. New Eridu is said to be the last oasis that has mastered the technology to co-exist with Hollows.

The city is home to a range of chaotic, boisterous, dangerous, and very active factions that each have their own goals. Players will become a professional Proxy, which is a crucial role that links the city and the Hollows.

Zenless Zone Zero's release date announcement also comes after the launch of Wuthering Waves, which is a Genshin Impact-like adventure game. The plethora of titles inspired by HoYoverse's open-world adventure show just how popular this style is among gamers, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
