Ubisoft has confirmed that its upcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will be a multiplatform title and become available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Windows Store.
The video game studio will soon show off how it recreated the classic role-playing game in the graphical style of Square Enix's Octopath Traveler series. The game was first teased in May 2021 and a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, was the first bit of news since then.

The post read that the legend of Erdrick "draws near" and is accompanied by a short teaser that ends with the phrase, "The legacy begins." The new tease suggests that Square Enix is very close to showcasing a proper look at the remake and maybe even giving out an estimated release date.
All of the possible new information could be revealed by the video game company during a showcase in the summer of 2024 during a time when E3 once took place. Square Enix announced Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake as a recreation of the original game from 1988, according to IGN.
This means that the game will arrive more than three decades from the original title that it was based on. The HD-2D style was brought to life after Square Enix released Octopath Traveler for Nintendo Switch in 2018. This feature had 2D characters moving through high-quality backgrounds in a tribute to classic turn-based RPGs.

When Square Enix first announced the remake of the original game, it was part of the franchise's 35th anniversary celebration. At the time, the only thing that the video game company revealed was that the new game was planned to be released on console.
The company also said then that in this new visual iteration of Dragon Quest 3, long-time fans and newcomers to the franchise will be able to experience an HD-2D version. It added that the remake will provide a unique three-dimensional feel by adding 3D effects to pixel-based backgrounds.
A New Gaming Experience for Fans
The release of Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation in 1988 was followed by an enhanced version of the SNES in 1996.
After that, Square Enix released a version of the game that was available on the GameBoy Advance in 2001. This was the particular version that was later ported to the Nintendo Wii and mobile, said WCCFTech.
While HD-2D graphics are seemingly easy to make, they are, in reality, rather expensive to create. Producer Tomoya Asano said in 2022 that it is worth noting that this type of graphics costs more than people typically think it does.
Fans who watched the teaser footage on X have started to dive deep into theory crafting and speculating about the upcoming game. For one thing, the text, "The legacy begins" is an odd thing to say about the third game in a franchise.
The video that was posted on X was also captioned with "The Legend of Erdrick draws near." Fans of the series refer to the first three games as the Erdrick Trilogy, which suggests that Square Enix could be teasing a bigger project, according to VG247.
