Spoilers follow for Season 4 Episode 2, "The Lion and the Rose" in the post below--you have been warned!
Not for the first time in the series, and certainly not for the last, the most recent episode of Game of Thrones left everyone reeling. Major events like what unfolded in The Lion and the Rose--arguably the most impactful occurrence since the passing of Robert Baratheon--have usually waited until the last few episodes of the season, serving as the climactic point to the build-up of the preceding seven or eight episodes.
This time, the death of King Joffrey occurred in just the second part of the new season, leaving plenty of episodes to send shockwaves through Westeros. To have it happen so early was a surprise to everyone who hadn't read the books considering what an evil and iconic figure Joffrey had been throughout the show, and the Lannisters must now scramble to protect their claim to the throne.
The photo gallery here gives a preview of where we'll go and what we'll see in episode three, Breaker of Chains, this Sunday. There aren't any real spoilers in these images, just a look at some characters that will feature in the next episode--enjoy!
