Cities Skylines 2 Will Completely Rebuild Economy, Introduce Big Content Update

Cities Skylines 2 developer Colossal Order said that it would be completely rebuilding the game's economy from scratch and will also introduce a big content update.

This comes as there have been various economic problems in the city-building game on top of its various performance issues. The developer's future update is also said to include new service buildings and vehicles.

Right now, products and materials seemingly do not earn Cities Skylines 2 players enough money. The demand for building types continues to remain high even if you build miles and miles of new zones.

On the other hand, rents and rates enter a late-game death spiral that results in the land value in industrial areas bleeding into residential and office blocks. When players wanted to improve the systems underlying money and taxes, their best bet was to use mods.

With so many criticisms and widespread negative feedback, Colossal has finally heard and is responding with a massive new patch. The developer said that the rebuilt economy will be delivered along with a lot of other fixes, according to PCGamesN.

Colossal Order also said that the initial implementation of the economy in Cities Skylines 2 reworks is done. The developer added that the patch is currently being polished and noted that its internal team indicates that they are heading in the right direction.

The studio claimed that the latest patch will not be able to address every problem that the game currently has but will make sure that it meets the expectations of the wider community.

It added that they want to give it a few more weeks so that they can take action on more player feedback that they have received from the beta group.

The goal of the new update is to fix the issues that were raised by community feedback, particularly those centered around the game's economy. It also increases the importance of managing the economy, increases the challenge, and makes it clearer to players how the economy is affected by their choices.

A Variety of Issues

So far, Colossal Order is planning to release the massive new patch somewhere between June 3 and June 19, 2024. On top of fixing the game's economy, Paradox Interactive's new forums post also gave fans an update on the console builds, said Insider Gaming.

The developer said that they are still hoping to keep the timeline for an October release later this year. However, they also issued a warning to fans that "it might have to be delayed further." This comes after various stability tests on a Beta build that was delivered last April.

Paradox Interactive also said that it was making some progress with some of the technical issues that were preventing it from releasing the game's asset editor. However, that particular feature is not yet ready and will not be for quite some time.

The latest update comes after a major controversy with Cities Skylines 2 where the developer and publisher were forced to make the Beach Properties DLC free. This was due to a variety of issues that players experienced, according to TechRaptor.
