After Elden Ring revealed a new enemy in the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion that looked eerily similar to Bloodborne's Winter Lantern, FromSoftware unveils another menacing-looking creature that will be introduced in the DLC.
The developer's official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, dropped a new image of the terrifying enemy that seems to be wielding a new type of weapon. The tweet includes the caption, "Fearsome foes of unfathomable power await you in the Realm of Shadow."
Elden Ring's New Enemy
The weapons of the new enemy are a pair of massive chakrams that it holds with either hand. Elden Ring director and FromSoftware lead Hidetaka Miyazaki stressed that new weapons and entirely new weapon archetypes are key features of the upcoming expansion.
Many players are now hoping that the expanded arsenal includes these deadly-looking chakrams, whether they are a normal item or a boss weapon.
There is currently an enemy type, the Crystalians, that technically already uses chakrams but this has been unavailable to players so far, according to GamesRadar.
The tease of the new enemy comes as FromSoftware's monster designs have really gotten in touch with the inherent horror of living in ambulatory sentient meat sacs. Some have also speculated that this is not a normal monster and could actually be one of the new bosses in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Some fans of the franchise have also speculated that the new golden-dress-wearing enemy could be related to Godwyn the Golden due to a similar scar on its back. It also features the same, twisted Omen horns seen on Mohg and Morgott, Godwyn's brothers.
For now, it is difficult to guess how the mysterious new enemy will fit into Elden Ring's lore without playing Shadow of the Erdtree. Some fans have also emphasized the idea that FromSoftware seemingly showed off a design that looks like a uterus, said IGN.
Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion
Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will provide players with a fresh challenge when it launches on June 21, 2024. The expansion will also be the first and last for the game and will feature a vast new region.
Miyazaki confirmed this, confirming that afterward, the team will be moving on to whatever's next after the DLC releases. He spoke at length during an interview a few weeks ago regarding the highly anticipated expansion.
He also stopped short of confirming a runtime for an average DLC playthrough as he previously caught flak for an estimate he made about the base game. His previous comments were seen by players as being inaccurate.
Miyazaki also touched on the notion of a separate leveling mechanic in the interview as Shadow of the Erdtree is supposed to be more or less as difficult as the second half of Elden Ring.
However, since the developer is aware that there are players who have fully leveled characters, the DLC region will have its own "level element."
Players will be able to opt into the new leveling mechanic to level the playing field when the expansion launches later this year. It can also be toggled off to experience the DLC in much the same way they would have first played the game, according to Kotaku.
