GTA 6 Will Release in Fall 2025, Rockstar Games Announces

Rockstar Games made an announcement that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will be released in Fall 2025 as its parent company, Take-Two, posted a $2.9 billion quarterly loss.

Take-Two's most recent guidance for the quarter had been a loss between $153 million to $170 million. The company also said that the fiscal Q4 loss of $2.9 billion includes a $2.18 billion goodwill charge, a $304.3 million hit for acquisition-related expenses, and restructuring costs of $93.3 million.

The company is also not yet prepared to get more specific than "Fall 2025" when it comes to the release window for the highly anticipated GTA 6. CEO Strauss Zelnick said that he thinks they would be leaving it at that for now during an interview.

He added that the announcement of the release window for the game will come from Rockstar Games and will be consistent with the way that they are marketing the title.

This comes as the trailer for GTA 6 smashed viewership records on YouTube when it was first released in December 2023, according to Variety.

The hype that the trailer generated showed just how much demand there is for the title after more than a decade since the release of its predecessor, GTA 5. Zelnick also addressed the recent round of layoffs that the company made, saying that he does not anticipate any further cuts.

The Take-Two chief said that the company is "in a very good place now," adding that they recently had three cost-reduction programs. Zelnick said that he also expects the company will be able to close its acquisition of Gearbox "relatively soon."

That would bring in the developer of the Borderlands franchise and Tiny Tina's Wonderland onboard for the franchises' publisher 2K. The CEO also anticipates sequential topline growth for Take-Two in fiscal 2025, 2026, and 2027.

The anticipation for GTA 6 comes as its predecessor, GTA 5, sold 200 million copies, making it the second best-selling title of all time, only behind Minecraft, which sold 100 million copies more, said The Verge.

Highly Anticipated Game

For now, there are many questions swirling around regarding GTA 6's release date since it was revealed last year. Fans have gone feral over small details that have been shown in things like website updates.

Additionally, internal conflicts at Rockstar Games' return to office policy had sparked doubt about whether or not GTA 6 will be delayed into 2026. Since the trailer last December, there has not been much information given by the developer about the new game.

However, what we do know is that GTA 6 will be available for fans on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, a PC version of the game will not be available at release but hopefully, players won't have to wait too long to get their hands on it after the console release, according to IGN.

Other information that fans know is that GTA 6 will involve musical artists Schoolboy Q and T-Pain in bringing a stellar soundtrack to the highly anticipated game.
