Ubisoft has officially revealed the release date for its upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows game, the latest entry in the franchise, which is Nov. 15, 2024, and has also shared a cinematic trailer.
The latest entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise takes fans to 16th century Japan and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna, Macs with Apple silicon via the Mac Apple Store, PC through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store, and part of a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Release Date
In Assassin's Creed Shadows, you will step into the roles of two protagonists, a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and a real-life historical samurai Yasuke, which is a first for the franchise. Ubisoft Quebec focused on fulfilling two iconic player fantasies during the development of the game.
The developer also wanted to make sure that its late-Sengoku period setting, which is known for its political turmoil, warfare, and dramatic social reformation, serves as an authentic backdrop.
This means that both protagonists will offer players vastly different gameplay experiences and overlapping perspectives, according to Ubisoft.
The team behind Assassin's Creed Shadows was drawn to this particular period in Japan because it was full of foundational, pivotal events. The late 16th century was when three of the Asian country's most important and well-known figures took power during an extensive Warring States Period.
The decision to include a real-life samurai for players to take control of was two-fold, as the developer wanted to include a Samurai. His story was open-ended enough that allowed them enough room for creativity as there are still a lot of questions and speculation surrounding him.

On the other hand, Naoe is a shinobi who takes advantage of stealth, parkour, and gadgets. Her personality will ultimately complement that of Yasuke's, who focuses on direct combat and the two will form a unique dynamic throughout Assassin's Creed Shadows.
The world director and historian at Ubisoft Quebec, Stephanie-Anne Ruatta, said that they tried to pick a setting that was a pivotal moment in history that allows for plenty of gameplay opportunities, said IGN.
What To Expect in the Latest Assassin's Creed Game
Associate narrative director Brooke Davies said that Yasuki is a person who will tie together many of the most powerful figures in our era. On the other hand, Naoe is the fictional daughter of the real-life historical figure Fujibayashi Nagato.
Game director Charles Benoit said that the thing about the Assassin's Creed franchise that shines the most is the hidden blade or assassination feature and being able to stay in the shadows. This is the core that they wanted to keep with the latest game in the series.
The cinematic trailer that was released also took its time to introduce the two protagonists of Assassin's Creed Shadows. The game was initially revealed as part of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed roadmap.
This was alongside the reveal of two other Assassin's Creed projects, codenames Hexe and Jade. The former remains mostly a mystery to fans but the latter was formally announced last year at Gamescom.
It is a mobile game that was co-developed by Tencent Games subsidiary Level Infinite, according to The Verge.
