Hulst Leads Studios

As reported by GamesIndustryBiz, Hermen Hulst, the current head of PlayStation Studios, will now lead the Studio Business Group. This group encompasses all of PlayStation's in-house development teams and extends to the adaptation of PlayStation intellectual property (IP) into other forms of media, such as television and film. Hulst, previously co-founder of Guerrilla Games, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been with Sony since 2005.

Expressing enthusiasm for his new position, Hulst stated, "I am thrilled to lead the studio business group and continue to build on our success with PlayStation 5, while preparing for the future."

Nishino Takes Charge of Platform

Hideaki Nishino, who served as Senior Vice President of Platform Experiences, will now head the Platform Business Group. This group oversees console hardware, technology, accessories, PlayStation Network, and relationships with third-party developers. With over a decade of experience within Sony, Nishino is poised to drive innovation and community growth within PlayStation.

"We will continue to connect players and creators through world-class products, services, and technology," Nishino affirmed.

Both leaders will report to Hiroki Totoki, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. These appointments come into effect on June 1, marking a new chapter for PlayStation's leadership.

Totoki remarked, "Sony Interactive Entertainment is a vibrant and expanding enterprise that delivers outstanding entertainment experiences by merging content with cutting-edge technology."

Staying True to Tradition

Sony's decision to promote seasoned PlayStation veterans reflects its commitment to internal talent. However, the appointment of two CEOs signifies a departure from previous leadership structures, indicating the division's expanding scope and complexity.

PlayStation's Studios business has seen significant growth in recent years, accompanied by endeavors such as PC porting, multimedia adaptations, and ventures into live-service gaming. Despite this success, the division has faced challenges, including rising costs and recent studio closures.
