Performance Variances Across Xbox Models
The analysis revealed differing performance levels between the Xbox Series X and Series S. The more robust Series X consistently maintained a frame rate of over 40 frames per second (fps), occasionally peaking at 60 fps. Conversely, the lower-end Series S struggled with more significant frame rate drops, particularly in crowded areas, potentially necessitating adjustments to graphical settings for smoother gameplay.
Notable Technical Hitches
One notable issue identified by Marc "Try4ce" Duddleson of Digital Foundry was the occurrence of prolonged "black screens," more prevalent on the Series S. These black screens, lasting up to 20 seconds, occurred during character respawns or area transitions, disrupting gameplay flow. Despite these challenges, other players seemed to experience smoother transitions, indicating a potential inconsistency in performance.
Stringent In-Game Chat Censorship
Another point of contention highlighted by the review was the stringent censorship measures applied to in-game chat, seemingly mandated for the game's Xbox release. This censorship extended beyond player interactions to affect NPC dialogues, resulting in some comical exchanges. Reports surfaced of players being banned for innocuous activities, such as advertising Free Companies, likely due to the platform's rigorous content filters.
