Homeworld 3 is coming out on May 14, 2024, and features intense, hyper-accurate spaceship battles and good sci-fi fun.
The key features that will keep players entertained with developer Blackbird Interactive's latest spacefaring game are its dramatic, lengthy cutscenes, incredible vistas, thrilling moments, and thoughtful details.
Homeworld 3's Intense RTS Spaceship Battles
When players first get into Homeworld 3, they find scientist Imogen S'Jet preparing to enter the Hiigaran mothership, also known as Khar-Kushan, to become its navigator. With this, she will soon become one with the massive vessel, both physically and through a psychic link to the entire fleet.
However, an incredibly unfortunate space incident, known as "The Anomaly," has continued to spread through the cosmos.
It has disrupted gate travel and destroyed countless ships. The previous Homeworld navigator Karan S'Jet has gone missing and you will have to command ships in 3D space to figure out what is happening.
The game's 3D movement alongside fleets of units being retained throughout missions is what differentiates Homeworld 3 from its competitors back in the day when the first title in the series was released, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
In Homeworld 3, you can dodge asteroids, ambush enemy fleets to target weak points, and manage your fleets' formations to either be offensive or defensive.
Later on, you will also be able to unlock minelayer frigates, which have the ability to lay diamonds or boxes of explosives to secure choke points on multiple elevations.

The game features 13 missions in its story campaign and the first one is a tutorial and introduction. However, none of the subsequent 12 fall back on the RTS skirmish staple of defending a base until you build up a large enough force to attack your enemies.
Players will have up to five resource gatherers as well as a mothership for unit production, which you will have to keep from being destroyed.
Missions in Homeworld 3 have hard limits on both individual ship types and ship classes, such as frigates or strike craft. This means that resource management and high-level tactics are key to complete objectives.
Figuring Out the Unknown Threat
The first game in the franchise told the story of an oppressed people and their journey from a desert planet to their original homeworld. On the other hand, the second focused on dealing with a threat to that world in the form of a technological warlord, said Polygon.
But Homeworld 3 emphasizes the threat of The Anomaly that has already killed inhabited worlds and wiped out billions of people in the process. Also, the galactic empire is crumbling at the might of this unknown danger.
On top of its expansive single-player campaign, Homeworld 3 boasts a unique multiplayer battle system. The game delivers both the bog-standard multiplayer skirmish match featuring Mothership but also features a new co-op mode that has massive potential.
For those who have never played a Homeworld game before, there will be quite a few surprises in store in skirmish mode. This is limited to team matches or free-for-alls where up to six players or AI bots will battle it out, according to IGN.
