Helldivers 2 Players Start Petition To Bring Back Fired Community Manager

Helldivers 2 players are banding together once again after a controversial week with a petition that is demanding a fired community manager to be reinstated after he encouraged users to review bomb and request for refund of the game.

The petition is calling on the game's developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, to bring back community manager Spitz.

The situation comes after players were able to edge out a victory against Sony, who announced that it was walking back on its prior decision to require the linking of a PlayStation Network account to play the game.

Following that, players found out that Spitz was removed from his post as the community manager for Helldivers 2 and was no longer part of the game's official Discord channel. Spitz had initially won the hearts of players when he apologized for comments he made that seemingly outraged the community.

However, he later encouraged players to review bombs and request for refunds of the game, saying that it would give them leverage in discussions with Sony. While his comment was obviously meant to help the community, it apparently led to his involuntary termination, according to GameRant.

This led to many players going to change.org and starting a petition to bring him back as a community manager for Helldivers 2. The ones who started the petition have referred to themselves as "Spitz's Roughnecks."

They believe that the former Helldivers 2 community manager had done enough to redeem himself among fans. The petition on change.org itself specifically calls for Arrowhead Game Studios to reinstate Spitz to the official Discord channel.

The players responsible for the petition said that Spitz's actions and comments were part of the reason why so many of them did not refund Helldivers 2. They also noted that he also deserves the honor of being canonized inside the game itself as "General Spitz."

Immediately after Sony's announcement of walking back on its PSN linking requirement, Spitz told the community that he had "Almost. Not quite" got fired because of his comments.

Shortly after, however, he came back and confirmed that he was officially let go from his community manager position, said PCGamer.

Bringing Back a Former Community Manager

At the time of writing the petition at change.org had already passed 4,000 signatures with a goal of 5,000 signatures. It writes that many players see the former community manager as being the reason that they felt optimistic about returning to the game amid Sony's controversial decision.

The players who made the petition were calling on Arrowhead Game Studios to bring back Spitz, who they said was successful in what he wanted to do and also restored the faith of much of the game's community.

On top of calling for Spitz to be reinstated as a Helldivers 2 community manager, the players who made the petition are also requesting another thing. They want Arrowhead Game Studios to canonize him in the game's lore as General Spitz.

Despite the thousands of signatures, it is unclear whether or not the game developer will act on players' request regarding the former community manager. Most notably, there could be some legal hurdles that would make it difficult, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
