Red Hook Studios Announces Darkest Dungeon 2 Mod Support Launching Soon

Modding Made Manageable

The transition to providing modding capabilities in Darkest Dungeon 2 has posed challenges due to the game's new engine. Red Hook Studios acknowledges the complexity of this task, especially compared to the original Darkest Dungeon, which boasted a vibrant modding community. To ensure continuity in modding experiences and accommodate plans for console launches and the Kingdoms DLC, Red Hook has opted for a phased approach to mod support.

"The studio's strategy involves a phased release of mod support, with each update enhancing the previous one," the studio clarifies. This approach is designed to grant modders early access to crucial tools and progressively broaden their ability to modify the game.

What to Expect in the First Wave

The initial modding update, scheduled for release before the end of June, will include fundamental tools such as mod loading/overwriting logic and integration with the Steam Workshop. Modders will gain the ability to edit various .csv files within the game, allowing for adjustments to values governing gameplay mechanics like damage, modifiers, and stats.

Additionally, modders will have the freedom to create new items from scratch and define unique hero palettes. Looking ahead, Red Hook Studios aims to empower modders further by enabling the creation of custom characters.
