Street Fighter 6 Reveals Akuma Update Release Date

Street Fighter 6 finally reveals the release date for its upcoming roster addition, Akuma, which is on May 22, 2024.

The devilish character was teased to be coming to the latest entry in the fighting game franchise by Capcom back in March. On top of the release date for Akuma, the company will also add a new stage, Enma's Hollow, where the character is seen training, on the same day.

Akuma and his training stage will be accompanied by Outfit 3 for all Year 1 characters, which are Rashid, AKI, Ed, and Akuma. All of the new content will be available for players who own the Year 1 Ultimate Pass, Year 1 Character Pass, Deluxe Edition, or Ultimate Edition.

Capcom is also planning a balance update for Street Fighter 6 at the same time but has not yet provided any further details on what it could include. Considering that the game was released on June 2, 2023, Akuma is presumed to be the final addition to the roster for the first year, according to Eurogamer.

Akuma made his first appearance in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo which was released in 1994 and was a hidden boss in the game. As a throwback, Street Fighter 6 will make the character's second outfit a tribute to that particular debut.

The character's moves in the fighting game include the return of Ashura Senku to let players glide onto the battlefield and his Gou Hadouken fireball. Akuma will also be able to use a new thrusting move known as Adamant Flame as well as a selection of demonic Super Arts.

Akuma is also able to use Messatsu Gohado, which is his level 1 overpower where he fires a highly concentrated ball of Satsui no Hado. His level 2 overpower is Empyrean's End, which turns the Satsui no Hado into a powerful flame and lights it inside his foe.

The character's first level 3 Super Art is known as Sip of Calamity and is shown as him knocking his opponents face down to the ground before dealing a single devastating strike. Akuma's second level 3 Super Art is Shun Goku Satsu, said MeriStation.

Bring Back Iconic Moves

This particular move can only be performed when your Vitality is low enough for a Critical Art and can also be used to finish combos. In Street Fighter 6, players can see what happens during the second that the nightmare lasts.

The announcement that reveals Akuma's return to the franchise also showed a gameplay trailer of the devilish character. The version of the character in the latest entry in the franchise is older than previous incarnations but still considered a powerhouse.

The footage showed off a variety of moves, including Akuma's air fireball, dive kick, and teleport move. However, Capcom saved the best for last and showed off the character's iconic Raging Demon attack.

When Akuma comes to Street Fighter 6, he will be available across all of the game's modes, including World Tour. This is where players can learn more about the character's story, according to IGN.
