Alone in the Dark Reboot Devs Face Layoffs Amid Post-Release Turmoil

Barely a month after the much-anticipated reboot of the horror classic Alone in the Dark hit the shelves, developers Pieces Interactive are facing turbulent times. The game, which was initially slated for release last year but underwent several delays, finally made its debut at the end of March.

Reception and Layoffs

Pitched as a modernized version of the original 1992 game, the reboot boasted a star-studded cast including David Harbour and Jodie Comer. However, critical reception has been mixed, with reviewers highlighting both successes and shortcomings.

Now, amidst the post-release period, news of layoffs at Pieces Interactive has emerged. Former QA analyst Helena Hansen took to X-er earlier this week to confirm her departure and express solidarity with affected colleagues. However, the exact number of layoffs has not been officially confirmed by Pieces or their publisher, THQ Nordic.

Uncertain Future

While Pieces Interactive is owned by Embracer, a company known for periodic layoffs, the extent of the current job cuts remains unclear. Despite CEO Lars Wingefors announcing an end to restructuring-related layoffs in March, the recent developments indicate ongoing challenges within the company.
