Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition surprised fans with a quiet launch on PC via the Microsoft Store after a decade.
The game is a 2014 remastered port of the 2013 Tomb Raider game that was developed by Crystal Dynamics. The latter was a reboot that featured a younger Lara Croft trying to survive on a dangerous island adventure.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
That particular game was originally released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. But in 2014, a slightly remastered and improved port of the reboot was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One under the name Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
Unfortunately, players who were on PC were never able to play the updated remaster until now. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was found to have quietly made its way onto the Microsoft Store without any forewarning or announcement.
What many believe is the reason for the quiet release of the game on PC is how the game, according to those who played it, is kind of a mess. Some have complained about issues with starting the game, missing animations, wonky physics, performance issues, and other problems, according to Kotaku.
For now, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition seems like it still needs quite a number of patches and released on Steam so that more people can have access. However, there are also concerns that the original version of the game that is currently on sale on Valve's gaming platform could be removed.
The game includes all previously released DLC, including Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, single-player outfits, and a collection of multiplayer bonuses. It also features quite a number of graphical improvements.

The description for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition said that it is a cinematic action-adventure that forces Lara Croft to quickly grow from an inexperienced young woman into a hardened survivor and has been re-built for next-gen consoles.
It adds that the protagonist will have to endure high-octane combat, customize her weapons and equipment, and overcome harsh environments in order to survive and uncover the deadly secret of the island, said IGN.
Releasing on Game Pass
Fans of the franchise were also given the opportunity to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider when it was released on Game Pass earlier this month. It initially caused confusion among players as it was widely believed that it was the Definitive Edition that would be coming on the service.
However, it turned out that it was only the Standard Edition that was made available with Game Pass. The Definitive Edition includes the base game and also features seven DLC packs for the Challenge Tombs.
The game tells the story of how Lara Croft forges her path to becoming the Tomb Raider as she traverses the jungle, survives Tombs, discovers hidden cities, and saves the world, according to True Achievements.
Other titles that also came to Game Pass include Lego 2K Drive, Lil Gator Game, EA Sports PGA Tour, Kona, Botany Manor, and Harold Halibut. The latter is a handmade narrative that tells the story of friendship and life on a city-sized spaceship that is submerged in an alien ocean.
