Open-World JRPG Runa Reaches $52K Kickstarter Goal in Less Than a Day!

Runa, an upcoming turn-based open-world JRPG, has successfully reached its $52,000 Kickstarter goal in less than a day, smashing past multiple crowdfunding stretch goals.

These goals include what players consider to be the most important of them all, which is a commitment to add fishing into the game. The initial Kickstarter goal of Runa was set at $50,000 and the campaign quickly boomed in only 16 hours.

With 25 days left to go until the end of the campaign, the Kickstarter campaign has already received more than $140,000 in pledges. The stretch goals include adding new characters, a fishing minigame, and adding farming and cooking.

The Madrid-based team behind the game will add more dateable characters if the campaign gets to more than $190,000. The creator of the game clarified that Runa will come to other systems "after the PC version" despite fans not seeing console-related stretch goals on Kickstarter, according to GamesRadar.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the developer for Runa reassured those who pledged that they would provide an update as the campaign develops. The game is set to come to early access when it is "ready to be improved with beta testing."

The launch of Runa will feature a turn-based combat system that has a focus on elemental affinities, some light puzzling, mini-games, base-building, and a social link system. The game is set in the world of Akasha.

This is where runas symbolize the technological advancements of an ancient civilization. The description of the campaign also explained that the use of runas is key, whether it's for domestic use or during combat.

A Modern Take on Classic JRPG Titles

The developers of the game include three people, Felix, Kuki, and Draphnier, who form Fennec Studio. On the Kickstarter page, Felix said that they started working on Runa as a project to create a game that is reminiscent of the classic titles that they love, said ReadWrite.

He added that despite them having only three members working on the game, they have a versatile team. Felix noted that with the support from the Kickstarter campaign, they will work on strengthening the aspects of the game in which they are more limited.

The team also noted that they have the common dream of making games that they always wanted to play despite being a tiny development team. Runa is currently still in the development phase and much of the process is being shared on social media platforms.

Runa has a massive and colorful world that is filled with mysteries and sci-fi elements. Players will follow the journey of a group of adventurers who are driven by their own unique motivations and find themselves traveling the world and trying to uncover all of its hidden secrets.

The game will feature the "Elemental Break System" which was inspired by classic JRPG titles. Players will have four active and a total of seven party members that can be swapped at any time without wasting a turn depending on the strategy that is needed, according to Gematsu.
