Dementium: The Ward: Classic Nintendo DS Horror Game Coming to PS4, PS5

The beloved classic Nintendo DS horror game, Dementium: The Ward, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players on Apr. 19, 2024.

The game was originally inspired by Silent Hill and puts players in control of an amnesiac trying to escape a psychiatric hospital ward. The new console versions of the title will be identical to the version that was released for the Nintendo Switch in October last year.

The original developers of Dementium: The Ward, Renegade Kid, released the game back in 2007 on the Nintendo DS and gave the game a 3DS port in 2015. While it received overall mixed reviews when it initially launched, it has gained somewhat of a cult following. It is now considered by many to have been generally underrated.

Following the release of Dementium: The Ward on the Nintendo Switch in October 2023, interest in the classic horror title was renewed. Renegade Kid's debut game is told from a first-person perspective, according to GameRant.

Dementium: The Ward tells the story of one William Redmoor, who will have to go through various puzzles and fend off terrifying monsters throughout his escape attempt. The game also features a creepy atmosphere and a lot of lighting that creates a well-rounded horror experience.

The current license holder and publisher of the game for the Nintendo Switch port is Atooi, which announced the release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The new version of the game is said to be identical to their previous port.

It noted that the game was built "from the ground up" for larger screens and offers both an HD mode that has a resolution of 1080P at 60FPS. It also features a retro mode that, if it does remain identical to the Nintendo Switch version, emulates the 3DS display at 240P.

The protagonist of the game wakes up in what seems to be an abandoned medical ward but he quickly realizes that he is not alone. The building is later found to be littered with demonic creatures that roam the hospital, said Bloody Disgusting.

Reviving a Classic Horror Game

Having only a flashlight and a nightstick, players will have to help the amnesiac not only to fend off the horrifying creatures but also find the exit. Despite the port, there has been no information on whether the sequel, Dementium II, will also be given the same treatment as the base game.

The official description of Dementium: The Ward reads that it is an award-winning survival horror experience that returns from the dead. The game will combine smooth first-person shooter gameplay with a demented tale of mystery and terror.

Dementium: The Ward is not the only major title that came to the Nintendo Switch as One Piece Odyssey is also coming on Jul. 26, 2024. The game, which is classified as the Deluxe Edition, will include the base title as well as the "Reunion of Memories" DLC that is available on other platforms.

The Deluxe Edition will also feature the Traveling Outfit set and the Sniper King's Traveling Outfit. On the other hand, the City of Water Outfit set will be an exclusive set to One Piece Odyssey players on the Nintendo Switch, according to CBR.
