A Nostalgic Journey

Golden Axe, originally released as a side-scrolling beat-'em-up, is set to be reimagined into a ten-episode animated series by Comedy Central. Promising to blend humor with reverence for the beloved game, the series will follow the adventures of veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead as they embark on a quest to rescue the land of Yuria from the clutches of the villainous Death Adder.

Joining them on their journey is Hampton Squib, an inexperienced yet eager adventurer, adding a fresh dynamic to the familiar trio.

Behind the Scenes and Casting

Joe Chandler, known for his work on American Dad, is set to lead the creative team as the showrunner for Golden Axe. The series boasts a star-studded cast, with Matthew Rhys, Danny Pudi, Liam McIntyre, Carl Tart, and Lisa Gilroy lending their talents to bring the characters to life.

Pudi portrays the enthusiastic Hampton Squib, while Rhys embodies the gruff Gilius Thunderhead. Gilroy takes on the role of the formidable Tyris Flare, and McIntyre portrays the noble Ax Battler. Tart rounds out the cast as the menacing Chronos 'Evil' Lait from Golden Axe 3.

Golden Axe joins a growing lineup of Sega properties receiving the adaptation treatment, including the highly successful Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise and an upcoming film based on Streets of Rage. Additionally, Sega has announced plans for adaptations of Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone, signaling a resurgence of interest in classic gaming IP across various entertainment mediums.
