Destiny 3 rumors are now spreading after the leaker who posted early information regarding Destiny 2's expansion accurately claimed that the new title in the franchise is codenamed "Payback."
The leak comes as Bungie just recently revealed what is considered to be the most major updates that will be included in Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion. These would include a new enemy faction, an exotic class item that allows players to combine game-changing perks, and a new subclass known as Prismatic which combines Light and Dark.
Destiny 3 Leaks
The Reddit user who is said to have leaked the Prismatic class a few months ago also claimed that Destiny 3 is currently in development. Fans are now riding the hype train as the rumors about the new subclass turned out to be true.
The leaker said in February 2024 that they had details of the Prismatic subclass that they called "Prism" at the time. Other than a little change in the name, their information was more or less accurate with what Bungie has officially revealed, according to Kotaku.
One of the specific examples that the leaker suggested included "procing devour and rampaging as stormcaller." This sounds exactly like a hybrid Arc/Void hybrid Warlock that a developer previously suggested during the showcase of the new expansion.
The leaker also noted that Destiny 3 will take the Prismatic subclass even further and move away from the subclass system entirely. They said that the latest title in the franchise has been in the works for quite some time but are not sure of its current status within Bungie.

The last they heard was that it was removing the subclass system entirely, which is highly believable considering the realities of the new Prismatic subclass. Bungie likened the new feature to an "advanced subclass."
The leaks suggest that the idea behind Prismatic in Destiny 2 was to become a set-up for how Destiny 3 would play out without subclasses altogether. Another question that is raised is if the latest tile in the franchise is actually in development, would it cause a delay in the Destiny 2 update to give way for the new title, said Forbes.
Accurate Information for Destiny 2 Expansion
The Reddit leaker said that they have seen some speculation regarding the codename of Destiny 3, adding that it does not relate to any story events. Rather, it is an homage to Bungie getting payback against itself by creating something that they are hoping fans will love.
Bungie itself also said that the Destiny franchise will continue on past the end of The Final Shape expansion despite it marking the end of the series' "Light and Darkness Saga." Luke Smith said that Bungie would follow up with details on what will be coming next to the franchise "soon" following the full release of the new expansion on June 4, 2024.
He noted that facing The Witness will not be the end of Destiny 2 and certainly not the end of the entire franchise. He said that after players battle against the boss, they will be able to tell them more of what they have in store, according to Eurogamer.
